Considering the truth behind evolution?

Why can't we prove this theory and why if we came from chimps did we evolve out of our natural warm outer coating of fur which protected us from cold to no fur? When did we begin covering with clothes and how many years did the evolving beings have to freeze before they were smart enough to cloth themselves? It seems like adapting and evolving aren't working together. Shouldnt it be the other way around?
