Is this welfare fraud? pleease help!!!?

So my childrens father was put into prison and his mother who i barley know since they are not close,told me that me and my kids could rent two rooms from her to be in the same city he was sent too, being a single parent and my baby being newborn i applied for assistance, they asked if I was related to landlord i said no, because I AM nOT, my kids are by blood but not me. So is this fraud to be renting from my kids fathers mother? I did not tell DSS that it is my boyfriends mother, they barley talk, and she is not nice and strict landlord i did not lie she is not related to me, just kinda worried it has been 8 months and no issuse but bothers me and i am afraid to say anything to worker and get in trouble , Please help, if anyone out there is a social worker please help me is this fraud????? Can i get in trouble if they do find out she is my childrens blood relitive and i did not voulenteer the info. HELP PLEASE ....... stressed in ny!
